Vinyl Wood Flooring Installation
by Nancy
Vinyl wood flooring installation is not
difficult at all, contrary to what people say and unlike installing hardwood flooring. Being a DIY guru is by no
means needed.
All you need to do it properly is following a
few instructions and have a few tools handy as well as some good vinyl such as the Armstrong vinyl flooring. So
instead of getting someone else to install the floor installation for you while you end up spending a small
fortune, you can save yourself some money by doing it all on your own as a convenient weekend
project.
How to install the vinyl wood flooring on your own
- Have the vinyl flooring material selected so you know
what you're getting
- Measure the dimensions of the room where the flooring will
be put and bring these measurements to the showroom so you can discuss with the seller how much vinyl you
actually need. One tip I've learned the hard way is to get a bit more than needed. Don't ask me why...Also get
some adhesive while you're at it, as you will be needing that shortly.
- Make sure that the underflooring or concrete is flat and
smooth, with no obvious bumps. Any higher or lower areas should be either filed away or filled them up to be
level with the rest of the ground.
- Mark the area of the flooring that will need to be cut from
the big batch. Start cutting away using some heavy duty scissors that will do the job easily. You can also use
shears or a utility knife if you're more handy with either of them. Keep any extra pieces that you cut away in
case you might need them later.
- Once the cutting is complete, lay the flooring in the
position it will be. You need to cut around any obstacles and for the insides cut half circles right until
you're sure that the flooring is flat on the ground.
- Now line up the edges against the wall and tape it down
using a masking tape. This is only temporary to fix the flooring in place.
- Roll the wood flooring on the concrete and press it
firmly down. Next lift up the vinyl to reveal the template stuck on the vinyl backing. You need to cut away the
vinyl material from the paper's outer edge.
- Now cut the vinyl along the template edge. Do this for each
of the walls and don't forget to actually hold the vinyl in place strongly so it doesn't
move.
- Now take the adhesive and spread it with a roller coat or a
fine notched trowel alongside the actual walls. Have it around 6" wide.
- Attach the vinyl to the glue and press tightly over it to
get stuck to the adhesive.
- Leave it all to dry for a couple of hours until the glue
and the vinyl really bond together.
- When you are sure that the glue is dry, you can start
cleaning the flooring from any extra glue and dirt and put back your furniture.
